The Altun Ha Mayan Site is located 30 miles North of Belize City and it is a 45 minutes drive to the site. This site was once home to as many as 10,000 inhabitants over a 1,000 year-long period of occupation dating back as early as 200 BC, it was occupied as recent as the 10th century. The Kinich Ahau Jade Head ” The Mayan Sun God” was discovered at this prestigious site back in the year 1968. The area around the Altun Ha is rich in wildlife including armadillos, bats, squirrels, agouti, paca, foxes, raccoons, coati, tapir and the white-tailed deer as well as hundreds species of birds.
