The Caracol Mayan Site is the largest and tallest in Belize with a 25,000 acres of land coverage. It sits high on a plateau, 500 meters above sea level on the Western Edge of the Maya Mountains within the Chiquibul Rainforest Reserve. Caracol is a 3.5 hour drive from Belize City heading west, while driving along there are some quick stops in order to see the Rio Hondo Pool in the Pine Ridge Valley.
The highest canopy forest is home to diverse species of cats, as well as rare birds such as the Keel-Billed Toucan, Mot Mot, Crested Guan, Great Curassow & the Oscillated Turkey. The tour can also be combined with a visit to the Rio Frio Caves & the Rio Hondo Pools.
